First in China! Successful Field Test Acceptance of "Moving Block Train Control System based on Beidou Satellite Positioning and Vehicle-vehicle Communication" Participated by CASCO

The field test of "capacity-configurable train control technology based on dynamic interval", which was participated by CASCO and listed in the three national key R&D program of "Advanced rail transportation", successfully passed the expert evaluation and acceptance on July 22. This initiative marks the milestone achievement of the forefront scientific research of this key project, which lays the foundation for the future application of the system.

This new train control system completed its first application of three major functions in the field test: Beidou satellite train positioning, vehicle-vehicle communication and moving block tracing, which is unprecedent in the industry and was evaluated as "the first in the world and original in China" by the experts.  


The system not only achieves SIL4 safety standards, but also has five features: onboard centralization, trackside minimization, communication multimodality, capacity adaptation and intelligent maintenance, which can significantly improve the safety, intelligence and operational efficiency of the low-density railway network, and realize the minimization and miniaturization of trackside equipment, significantly reducing operational costs.  


As a national key R&D project, the research of "capacity-configurable train control technology based on dynamic interval" aims to develop a new train operation control system featuring high safety and reliability, space-sky-vehicle-ground integration, multi-information fusion positioning and dynamic interval control, in order to meet the demand for safe, efficient operation and continuous capacity guarantee of low-density and sparse railway network in western and remote areas of China.


The project is jointly undertaken by Beijing Jiaotong University and a number of industry leading partners including CASCO, China Railway Qinghai-Tibet Group Co., Ltd., and the Planning and Standards Research Institute of the National Railway Administration. Among them, CASCO took the lead in Task V "the R&D and application demonstration verification of train control equipment based on dynamic interval", responsible for the development and field test of the main equipment prototype of the capacity-configurable train control system based on dynamic interval.  


After three and a half years of technical research and system development, the complete system including central control equipment, trackside target controller and on-board ATP equipment was successfully deployed to the 121km Haergai-Muli testing line covering five stations and four sections, as well as three testing trains of China Railway Qinghai-Tibet Group Company Limited. From July 17 to 21, CASCO called for key personnel from R&D, operation, quality, safety and testing departments for field joint commissioning and testing of the new system on Haergai-Muli branch line of Qinghai-Tibet Line, where field test was completed in a record-setting manner in 5 days. The test data shows that within its cover of not less than 100 km, the system is capable of dynamic configuration for train operation tracking interval, with the minimum train tracking interval of no more than 3 minutes and suitable for an operating speed of 80 to 250 km/h.  



Field commissioning and testing


The successful completion of this field testing highlights CASCO's strong technical innovation and project implementation capability. In the future, the technology is expected to be applied for the low-density sparse railway network in the western and remote areas of China that bears the duty of national defense and security, and its innovative concept may be promoted to the railway throughout China to meet the demand for highly efficient, comprehensive, integrated and sustainable development of China's rail transport as the strategic backbone transport network of the whole country.
