Shanghai has recently issued a local standard to comprehensively regulate intelligent operation in urban rail transit—the Requirement Specification of Intelligent Operation for Urban Rail Transit (hereinafter referred to as the Specification). Compiled under the leadership of CASCO, this document represents a significant milestone in the deep integration of intelligent technologies with rail transit. It also underscores Shanghai’s growing influence in standardization and the industrial application of artificial intelligence.
The Specification outline functional and data requirements for intelligent operation across five domains: intelligent operation, service, maintenance, management, and emergency response. It provides scientific top-level design and technical guidance to accelerate the deployment of digital and intelligent solutions, and drive the comprehensive digital transformation of urban rail transit.
The Specification is rooted in Shanghai’s successful practices in intelligent rail transit operation, of which CASCO has participated in multiple groundbreaking "first-in-China" benchmark projects. These include Shanghai Metro Line 10, the first high-capacity fully automatic line in China; Line 16, the first to realize "3+3" online train flexible coupling; and Line 2, the first CBTC+TBTC dual signaling system revamping project.
The Specification incorporates advanced technologies such as AI to empower the digital and intelligent transformation of the rail transit. CASCO’s self-developed Xihe Digital Rail Transit Solution, recognized for its technological innovation, is featured as a model case. Built on an open rail digital base, the solution integrates two core platforms—Intelligent Operation Control and Intelligent Maintenance—along with products like intelligent train control, intelligent dispatching, and intelligent station, significantly enhancing industry-wide digital and intelligent capabilities.
Furthermore, the Specification integrates CASCO’s innovative achievements, including the Rail Transit SKY Large Model, passenger service agents, and equipment maintenance agents. It provides robust technical support for the emerging challenges such as rising passenger flow pressure, complex emergency dispatching decisions, high-quality service demands, and operation safety management.
With the implementation of the Specification in the future, the related outcomes will drive the intelligent upgrades in urban rail transit, achieving improvements in operation efficiency and safety, and providing citizens with more convenient and efficient travel experiences.
Leveraging the technical standard system established by the Specification, it will deliver a replicable and scalable "standardized solution" for smart urban rail development nationwide. This will accelerate the transformation of rail transit toward digitization, networking, and intelligence, opening a new chapter in high-quality development.
